Q. Where’s the best place to get updates and see your work?
A. my website: www.kosterknives.com and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kosterknives, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Koster-Knives/270161979664249
***Also, check out the order lists for all current production runs at the bottom of this page
Q. How can I place an order?
A. I have a new order form on my website: http://kosterknives.com/orders
If it’s not available in that form, I’m not making it right now.
Q. “Hey Dan – how’s my knife coming along?”
A. In this order:Check my Facebook, Check my blog/website; Read my Forum; Check the Order List; *then* send an Email with ALL your information: name, knife ordered, payment info (I generally ignore emails that blankly ask “How’s my knife coming along?”). I make hundreds of knives every year and don’t have the time to research every order one at a time. 30 minutes spent handholding is 30 minutes that could have been spent making your knife. I have a great system for allowing customers to track progress on their knives themselves – unequaled in the custom/handmade knife world. Be polite, don’t be a pest and do some legwork yourself first.
Q. “But, but….Can you at least give me a timeframe on when my knife will be done?”
A. Sorry, but I cannot. If you pester me, yes, I’ll give you a timeframe….and it will be wrong 99% of the time. Take whatever I tell you as a “shot in the dark”. I never get it right. Stuff always happens. I’ll get it done when I get it done. I certainly won’t get yours done any faster if I have to spend more time emailing about it than making it. Those customers that are polite and nice and accomodating/patient seem to get their knives quicker and are generally happier. Knifemaking is a PLEASURE for me. When it ceases to be a pleasure, I cease working on it.
Q. How do I reach you regarding an order?
A. Email is the best way (firstname.lastname@example.org) You can also call me at 479-366-7794 but often I have my fullface respirator on and earbuds in …so I don’t always answer the phone. The least effective way to reach me is by PM. I rarely check them as they are very unreliable. I prefer all my “important” stuff to be in one place – that’s why email is best.
Q. Do you require a deposit? How do I make a payment?
A. Starting Nov. 1, 2013 I will start requiring a non-refundable materials deposit (generally $50-100) for all *new* custom orders. This is how the rest of the arts/crafts world operates…and now, that’s how I will be operating.
Q. Do you take custom one-off orders? (ie. “make my design for me”)
A. Nope. I would have to charge $300-600 per knife to break even doing things that way. However, I will gladly consider any one-off orders in quantities over 10.
Q. Do you work with any Dealers?
A. Yes. KnivesShipFree.com, SteelAddictionKnives.com, TripleAughtDesign.com, ArizonaCustomKnives.com, WorkingKnives.com, AdventuresInAirguns.com and a few other private International Dealers have (or have had) bulk sales from me. Go there first if you’re in a hurry.
Q. What is your address?
A. Daniel Koster
1711 Beverly Ct
Bentonville, AR 72712
Q. How do you take payment?
A. In order of preference: Paypal, Credit Card, US Postal Money Order
Q. How much is shipping?
A. For most knives, shipping is $10. For larger knives, it is $15. I do combine for shipping whenever possible; each additional knife is $5.
International shipping is $20 for small knives, and $40 for most knives. $5 each additional.
Canada is US Express International = $40, $5 additional
Q. What do I do if I need a refund?
A. New policy = Deposits made for materials for new orders placed after Nov 1, 2013 will no longer be refunded.
Q. Do you accept transfers of orders?
A. Yes! I will transfer your order on one knife to another knife style. Email to get the ball rolling.
