FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Hopefully if you have a question about all things “Koster Knives” I can answer it here.
Q. Where’s the best place to get updates?
A. I post all updates to The Daily Grind: www.kosterknives.com/about/news
Q. “Hey Dan – how’s my knife coming along?”
A. In this order: Read my Forum; Check The Daily Grind; Check the Update page for that specific knife; then Send an Email with ALL your information: name, knife ordered, payment info (I generally ignore emails that blankly ask “How’s my knife coming along?”). I make hundreds of knives every year and don’t have the time to research every order one at a time. 30 minutes spent handholding is 30 minutes that could have been spent making your knife. I have a great system for allowing customers to track progress on their knives themselves – unequaled in the custom/handmade knife world. Be polite, don’t be a pest and do some legwork yourself first. Control the instant gratification urge.
Q. “But, but….Can you at least give me a timeframe on when my knife will be done?”
A. NOPE! If you pester me, yes, I’ll give you a timeframe….and it will be wrong 99% of the time. Take whatever I tell you as a “shot in the dark”. I never get it right. Stuff always happens. I’ll get it done when I get it done. The more you bark, the more likely I’ll shelf your knife and do it last. Those customers that are polite and nice and accomodating/patient seem to get their knives faster than the rest. Knifemaking is a PLEASURE for me. When it ceases to be a pleasure, I cease working on it.
Q. How do I reach you regarding an order?
A. Email is the best way (dan@kosterknives.com) You can also call me at 479-366-7794 but often I have my fullface respirator on and earbuds in …so I don’t always answer the phone.
Q. Do you require a deposit?
A. As of June, 2011, I no longer require deposits on knife orders. Once your knife is glued up and roughed out, I will contact you for payment. I’ll wait 2 weeks after the knife is done for payment arrangements to be made and then I’ll put the knife up for sale on my forum and sales website.
Q. Do you take custom orders? (ie. make my design for me)
A. Nope. I would have to charge $300-600 per knife to break even doing things that way.
Q. Do you work with any Dealers?
A. Yes. www.KnivesShipFree.com, www.SteelAddictionKnives.com, www.TripleAughtDesign.com, www.ArizonaCustomKnives.com, www.WorkingKnives.com, www.AdventuresInAirguns.com and a few other private International Dealers have (or have had) bulk sales from me. Go there first if you’re in a hurry.
Q. What is your address?
A. Daniel Koster
1711 Beverly Ct
Bentonville, AR 72712
Q. How do you take payment?
A. In order of preference: Paypal, Credit Card, US Postal Money Order, Personal Check
Q. How much is shipping?
A. For most knives, shipping is $10. For larger knives, it is $15. I do combine for shipping whenever possible; each additional knife is $5.
International shipping is $20 for small knives, and $40 for large knives. $5 each additional.
Canada is US Express International = $40, $5 additional
Q. What do I do if I need a refund?
A. Ask politely via email and I’ll arrange when I can make the refund. I’ve never denied anyone a refund. Include ALL of your information.
Q. Do you accept transfers of orders?
A. Yes! Email to get the ball rolling.
